This month, SuCo is proud to spotlight the man who brings clarity to complexity: Ben McPherson. Ben has worn many hats within our analytics team since he joined in April 2022. Ben has recently transitioned from leading TYP reporting to our Financial Services team, and the impact has been immediate. He has become a vital bridge across our Mortgage and Insurance divisions, using his analytical rigor to help establish and track the KPIs that drive our success. A master of root cause analysis, Ben untangles complex data with a steady hand. His proactive communication and diligence ensure no detail slips through the cracks, even during major platform transitions. Ben’s operational excellence makes him a teammate everyone relies on.
How does your work help teams across the company make better decisions?
An educated decision is a smart decision. There’s a lot happening at all times here, so being thoughtful and showing how a move will impact (or did impact) the business is critical for our success. We have a lot of data at our disposal, so distilling it down into something digestible and actionable for the other teams is something we’re always striving to improve on.
What about your role keeps you motivated as an Analyst here at SuCo?
Every day is a new challenge and there are always new problems to solve. The rest of the business relies on us Analysts to help them get wins where we can. Being needed and relied upon for our insight is a great feeling, and we don’t want to let our coworkers down.
What recent challenge did you help solve with data, and what was the outcome?
Not a specific example, and I think it’s ongoing, but after being placed with the Financial Services team in October, we’ve made some great strides, particularly in Mortgage. They’d accomplished a lot with a small team, but now we’re really standardizing a lot of processes, building new dashboards and visuals, and getting automation in use. It’s been a challenge, but we’re really setting ourselves up for sustained success.
What opportunities do you see for analytics to further improve the business in the future?
I think we’re only getting smarter with our data, and the Analytics team has been pushing automation and alerts lately. The key for us is to identify trends and insights earlier so we can maximize wins and minimize losses. We want to move quicker but not let anything fall through the cracks.
If you could instantly master any new skill or hobby, what would it be?
My main hobby is Dungeons & Dragons, and I really wish I was a better painter. I love using miniatures and terrain for battles, but my painting skills are lacking. High-quality work can really add that extra level of immersion, and it’s just a fun piece of the hobby that really lets me be creative. I have a bunch of videos and tutorials saved, and now I just need reps to get practice.
What’s one thing that always makes your day better during the workweek?
I love my coworkers, particularly the Analytics team. Sure, everyone’s capable at their job, but they also just seem to be good people. We work hard but have fun and feel invested in each other’s lives.
